Description: Both vases are of tapering square form, decorated with enamel and gilt and both matching in design. With two opposing panels, one shows geisha’s within a scenic background of trees and mountains. The other shows a gathering of deities. On the other opposing sides of the vases are the smaller shaped panels with finely painted scenes of allegorical figures. All on a dense brocade ground overlapped by circles, fans and flowers, signed to the base by Hododa with the Shimazu Clan mark above.
Condition: Usual wear consummate with age.
